Why I Chose to Work in My Church?

Just wondering....

Often my friends would ask why I chose to work in church?

My friend, whoever you are, you might be thinking I’m missing the BIG OPPORTUNITY not to choose to work in corporate (at this age, late 20s). I agree with you. Most of my peers are earning super good now!

Some of you might be thinking it's too early to spend the rest of my years serving in my Church, gaining nothing (which is totally untrue).

Whereas, you suggest/think I can build my career life first in the marketplace, get better pay, stable career, good future, and... da da da.... the rest you know. When everything in my life is stable, then, I can serve. I understand your point. But you see, I have different perspective in my life. Time on earth do not wait for me.

My answer will be the same to all of you. It's not by chance God opened this door for me to enter. It’s His plan. Early years, God placed a burden in my heart to see that life is not just about working, living, or even surviving. I’m feeling contented in a way, and I know God provides everything (I was taught by my Christian parents since young).

Life is about relationships with other people around me. I do not have the calling to work there. I’m not sure where and what I will be in 5 years down the road. No one knows the future except Him.

You might not understand what I am trying to tell you here. My faith (as a Christian) is nothing to be compared but I like to brag about it. I experienced His great LOVE in my own personal encounter.  I can’t explain to you here and you might think I’m insane about this God. What I can tell you that a deep relationship with Him that I have built over one year of working there.

I believe He placed me here to change me to be a better child of His. I came to know that how imperfect am I. So much so, I’m nobody but a sinner, fallen and selfish creature, saved by grace, and not by my strength or how much I can do good to other people to earn His love.

He is molding every character (both strengths & weaknesses) in my life. He created me for His purpose. He is the One who initiates every relationship. He is LOVE! He taught me to love others even those who had hurt me before. He mends every broken relationship, especially every member in my family. Now, I see them as God’s precious gift to me. I can’t thank Him enough that I can forgive and love them for who they are.

I came to the point I learned to surrender myself to Him. He gave me hope and joy that I can’t express in word. In conclusion, I can tell you that I have gained the best ‘profitable investment’ in my life of trusting and knowing Him that He is my ALL. Yes, everything, even fulfillment in life. Not a single human or anything on earth can satisfy my soul.

I can’t find it in the marketplace because I was too busy finding my identity on earth, and for my own selfish needs – no time for Him at all. I have too many expectations on humans. I had learned the hard way for putting Him in the last priorityWithout Him, I’m nothing at all. Just like John 15:5.

I learned not to judge others and walk faithfully with Jesus every day. He never forsake or give up on me. He is faithful. I know Him as my Abba Father.

And you are also part of God’s creation on earth. He created you wonderfully. You are special so am I. I’m grateful to have friends like you who care about me even every detail of my life. I thank God for you. Forgive me if I have hurt you in the past or now. You are part of my life. I don’t take friendships from God for granted. I love you. Your friendship to me is a gift. It’s not by chance I met you in the first place but God’s plan for me.RELATIONSHIPS with people is important. Whether I like it or not, the fact? I learned to love and accept others.

I found my identity in Christ alone. I do not belong to this world, I belong to Him. My life here is temporary because I have an everlasting hope and life in Him. I know He is preparing me for His big plan. I have a long testimony of how GOOD THIS HEAVENLY FATHER TO ME. Who knows? He will call me back to the marketplace or in any ministry. I do not need to worry about my future anymore; what will I eat or drink....

Blessed, grateful and thankful enough, my life is a gift from Him - Serena
